Media and Mediocrity

The News Media, if thought of as a singular entity,  is its own culture.  They have their own goals, their own gods, and their own idea of success.   The idea of having news readily available is good and important, but do we really need it every minute of the day?  Do we need it every day?  Perhaps we just need a larger summary every once in a while.  Maybe this would give people more time to think about each news item patiently and intellectually.

But the Media does not want world peace – that would make their jobs much harder.  In fact, don’t you feel that all of the headlines and opening stories on tv news are all bad news?  The way they make money is by selling advertisements.  They perpetuate anxiety and fear so that you stick around to watch the advertisements.  Your body wants to get rid of this anxiety and fear they create in you, so you unconsciously and unwillingly unload it on the people in your life.

Media comes from the Latin word for “Middle.”  This is the same root word for “Mediocrity.”  Most news is neither deep nor revolutionary – just mediocre, perpetuating a mediocre world.
